Thought Journaling

When was the last time you spent time with your thoughts? There are all kinds of thoughts that run through your head on a daily even hourly basis that most of the time, we let go in our brains and then let them go right back out. Sometimes we let them linger because maybe they are important at the moment, but we are busy, and we choose to neglect the thought. They can be of a silly nature or a very deep contemplating kind of thought.

I believe that every action we take and even every thought we have serves a purpose. There are meanings to what we think, and we should not always dismiss them. Without knowing it, there could be a pattern of thought that can be important to hold on to because it could be communications from your soul. Your soul or unconscious could be needing attention, and it could be as simple as your soul asking for you to slow down and have a conversation with yourself.

I always have stuff going on in my brain, and my wheels are always turning, and I have found that writing down my random thoughts helps me decipher what it is that is my soul needs.

I know you're going to roll your eyes and say that you don't have time to journal and that I'm another one of those crazy people but hear me out.

Even in my busy life, I have found a way to give myself time once a week to clear out the thoughts and free up space in my head to make room for, yes, more random thoughts. In doing this routine for a long time I have found that I discover things I need to focus on in my daily life, things that are flawed about me that I need to work on and learned new things I would have never looked into had I not sat down with my thoughts.

It is really simple to do, and the only trouble you will have is making yourself set aside 10 minutes first thing in the morning or the last 10 minutes of your day before you find sleep. I have never been a morning person, but I have reset my biological alarm clock to allow me to wake up before the rest of the house and give myself quiet time to write.

When you get your quiet time, be sure to have your favorite pen and get yourself a notebook. The notebook isn't as important as the pen because if the pen isn't comfortable writing with your thoughts, it will not flow to the paper easily, and you will be distracted. Once you have a pen and notebook, find a comfortable spot and begin by closing your eyes and breathing. I don't want you to clear your mind like you would for meditation but to just allow thoughts to come and go. Now that you are comfortable and you have relaxed your mind to a flowing state of thoughts, start to just jot down words. These words don't have to make sense, and they don't have to form sentences. Just allow your pen to be the vessels that take your thoughts and make them visible.

Now you don't have to do this every day but do it at least once a week and if you are busy and don't have a lot of extra time be sure to schedule it by waking up 10 mins early in the morning or set aside 10 mins before bed.

Don't worry if you don't really write much the first few times because for some, it's uncomfortable to just sit in your own thoughts. Don't be afraid to talk to yourself through the writing. Give yourself and your soul a chance to slow day and be one with each other and before you know it you will be in partnership with yourself, and words will flow to the paper. Once you have spent your 10minutess writing your thoughts, put the notebook away. Don't try to understand in that moment everything you have written but do come back to it and read over it before you sit down the next time to write.

There may be things as your writing that will stick out to you that need addressed or acted on, but in the moment of writing, the most important thing is letting yourself communicate with yourself. You will begin to see patterns in your writing, and when you do, really let those patterns form the actions you should or shouldn't take.

When this happens, your brain will be taught to slow down because your unconscious mind knows it will have a chance to speak to you the next time you write, you know that you don't have to dwell on your random thoughts anymore because you have scheduled time to let them flow and those random thoughts will come back to you. This makes your busy life a bit less crazy.
